“A Pacific prospering from Green Business Models”
“To bring the Pacific closer to achieving its Sustainable Development Goals”
Purpose of the Green Business Centre
In September 2015, world leaders adopted the Sustainable Development Goals, giving the world a roadmap to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality and protect the environment. In December 2015, the successful agreement in Paris on climate change has become a tremendous catalyst for the success of the sustainable development agenda. The Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement are two milestones that can and must guide sustainable business action for decades to come. Adaptation to climate change is no longer the exclusive ambition of the public sector. Investment in adaptation makes business sense, due to the need for companies to both, climate-proof their operations, as well as to take advantage of the new business opportunities opening in the area of adaptation. Empowering the private sector is a vital prerequisite for the successful implementation of a transformative agenda to accelerate poverty reduction and sustainable development in the post- 2015 era.
The key purpose of the Green Business Centre is to provide support to Pacific Island business leaders and investors which empower them to fully embrace the change to the Green/Blue Business Model. By providing this support, businesses will place SDGs in core business goals and investment decisions and enhance the whole-of-society approach for countries to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
